One of the best things about holidays is not having to prepare breakfast. All you need to do is wake up and wander towards the dining room and take a seat. Cas Gasi has recently added new dishes to its breakfast menu and with much of the produce coming directly from the hotel’s organic garden, this means the most important meal of the day is also the most delicious.
The Cas Gasi day starts with a visit to the hen house, where the hotel’s lovely ladies provide freshly laid, free range, organic eggs. Choose them poached, scrambled, fried, soft or hard-boiled accompanied with toast, bacon, ham, sausage, tomato, avocado or whatever else you may desire – just ask. A classic French omelette with cheese, tomato, onion, mushrooms or ham is always a hearty way to start the day. If you’re leaning towards a leaner lifestyle, opt for an egg white omelette instead.
While kids and the sweet toothed will find it hard to resist pancakes with maple syrup and berries, vegans and vegetarians will swoon at the choices available. Scrambled tofu with tomatoes and onions, classic porridge with almond, soy, rice or oat milk, avocado mash on wholegrain toast and the crowning jewel of the new menu, an Açai bowl. This superfood packed with nutrients, antioxidants and essential minerals is served with banana, coconut, blueberries, goji berries, and homemade almond milk.
Of course, the abundant Cas Gasi breakfast buffet is still a major feature in the morning routine. A variety of breads and jams, homemade gluten-free granola, cereals of all kinds and flavours, fruits and juices – be sure to try the freshly squeezed orange juice made from fruit picked from Cas Gasi’s own trees.
When it comes to breakfast, the best role model to have is Winnie-the-Pooh, who had this exchange with Piglet in the House At Pooh Corner by A.A Milne: “When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?’
“What’s for breakfast?’ said Pooh. “What do you say Piglet?”
“I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet. Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said.
